Hiking & Climbing in Bad Hofgastein
You can hardly avoid the mountains and hiking trails of the valley. Numerous tours of varying difficulty levels are offered—many of which start right outside our front door.
During the cold season, you have the opportunity to discover over 100 km of signposted winter hiking trails that can be tackled with good footwear or snowshoes. Treat yourself to a guided tour and discover new perspectives of the valley.

Our Hiking Tip
One of our favorite hikes in the summer in Bad Hofgastein is the tour to Maurachalm at 1,660 meters above sea level. We usually take the Schlossalm cable car to the mountain station and first enjoy the fantastic panorama of our mountains! Then we hike over the Hirschkarkogel to a small cozy cabin.
It is located in a sunny hollow and offers a magnificent mountain panorama. Culinary needs are also taken care of: The regional delicacies and the homemade schnapps are a highlight. Refreshed, the trail then leads us through the mid-station into the valley. Of course, you can also “reverse” the tour: here you start from the valley and reach the cabin after about 1 ½ hours.
If you are too tired, you can of course take the Schlossalm cable car back to the valley. The nice thing about the tour is the possible combination of hiking and gondola ride. There’s something for every hiking level!
In-house, a selection of maps is available for you—plus, you can find all hiking trails and tours described in detail on the tourism association website: www.gastein.com.
If you want to go even higher and plan a tour in the high alpine area, we recommend Gerhard Angerer’s Alpine School.
